What designates a revolver a 3-screw?

    Hi

    A newbie question, but I see this discription a number of times here on this forum. What is a three screw?

    The 3 screw is the old model blackhawk and super blackhawk. They have 3 screws holding the internals in place, whereas the new models have two pins. The new models also have a transfer bar safety and no half cock notch. IMO the 3 screws are a good bit smoother and have a better trigger pull, also no matter how hard I try I can never get used to the lack of the half cock on the new models. I believe production of the 3 screw ran from 1955-72 but I could be a couple of years off.
