I don't know about you, but I get tired of punching paper sometimes. What I really like to do is fill up some bottles with water and blow them up.

I save all of my recyclable pop bottles, milk jugs, etc... and recycle them after they've been filled full of holes. Biggest problem is that there's nowhere to do it on a regular basis, so I'm forced to punch paper at a dedicated "gun range" now and then.

Really though...if I'm just going to punch paper, I may as well just shoot a 22 because the fun part for me is seeing the devastation of a large caliber. That's why I load 135gr, 150gr, & 180gr in the 40. Holy crap...a 40gr ballistic tip boat tail in the 223 will make a bottle of water disappear, but I'd usually only load those for bottle plinking.

But that's just me....what's your style?

I punch paper during load development.
I shoot jugs of water to get an idea of how the bullet preforms.
I shoot steel when I am testing my skill.
When friends and family come over to shoot, we shoot all sorts of things... food items like watermelon seem to be most popular.

    Wet Phone Books

Water jugs, wet phone books, dry stacks of cardboard and scrap wood of all kinds.

I shot a minnow bucket one time, filled with water, from 15 feet or so. 54 cal T/C Renegade; 450 gr lead bullet and 200 gr 3f...yep. Kicked my hind end off, but the water evaporated...disintegrated...whatever. The bucket was shot dead center top to bottom/rt to lft. The seam was slightly off center at the back. When the bullet hit the bucket, all the water disappeared, the bullet went straight up in the air; the seam split full length and the panel (whole side) of the can flattened out and flew off the stump leaving the bottom flat on the stump. A few seconds later the bullet came down and landed on the center of the bottom of the bucket.

It had expanded into a perfect mushroom of about double the original diameter. I never laughed so hard in my life. Evidently my friend who stood next to me had never seen a blackpowder gun go off. He cussed a streak, called me names and ran behind me holding his ears. After a few JC's and MF's he started laughing too. He thought I tossed a bomb into the bucket until I showed him the one bullet hole and the bullet.

Loved that gun...wish they still made them.

Now I just shoot whatever I can find. Plus a few Dirty Bird targets for sighting in new rifles or loads.

Should have took some video Friday. we shot a stump with Jon's Mac on auto shootin .22 lr. We blasted some warm Ginger ale cans full of Ginger Ale. Tadewrs work real good with fast 22-250 , 25=06 holler points.
bUT MY FAVORITE TARGET AND GAME IS EGGS , these are shot at 100 150 200 250 yds till only 1 can bust a egg . They declared the winner. best way is to hang em with scotch tape / I use 5/32 ss wire with a 90 deg bend in it.

Oranges and other fruit. Small gravels about the size of a dime make a lot of powder smoke when shot at 100 yds with a 250

Well, I completely refubished my range this Spring.
Now I can hang all hanging targets at top with plenty space to lower rails to place fixed targets for accuracy shooting.

I can accomdate at least 40-50 shooters at the same time( have had as high as 30 ), and I do have mobile targets to setup at closer areas.
I have flat metal plates ,spiked to the ground, at 7,10, 25,50 and 100 yds.
I have a huge amidextrious shooters bench on wheels, covered in outdoor carpet.I shoot weekly ,year round.

How blessed and fortunate I am.

That's awesome! I'm really jealous. I'm still trying to find land to shoot on so I don't have to be restricted to punching paper. I can shoot up water jugs at the in-laws though. That's probably only a quarterly journey.
