I'm seeking suggestions on an appropriate scope with BDC for my Ruger Scout. Thanks in advance for your input.

No BDC, but FWIW I have a Burris Scout Scope on Leupold low rise QD mounts - love it.

Sorry guys I have a fuzzy brain the letters mean something and I don't recall the language for scopes BDC I think has something to do with down range ballistics being seen through the scope but that's as far as I would go in explaining them.

BDC=Bullet Drop Compensator. Zero at 100 yards, little dots on scope for 200, 300 yards etc.

Burris makes a variable 2-7x32 scout scope with a BDC reticle. They are very nice scopes. The run around $350.00

If you want higher end, Leupold Mark 4 LRT with TMR reticle (BDC with fine crosshairs rather than dots) is hard to beat. A nice lower cost tactical scope s the Nikon M-308 with BDC-800 reticle.

Kronos, I have seen your paperwork with the Battlezone at 100 yds. Have you taken it out past that? Considering the range capacity of the .308, is a 3x9 shortchanging the rifle/you in going the extra yards? Yes I will probably never shoot a deer any further than 100 yds but I would not want to find myself wanting to reach out and touch and be limited by the scope.

3x9 is plenty of power out to 300 yards or so unless you are shooting prairie dogs. I've shot gallon milk jugs at 400 yards at 12 power with no problems. Big power in your scope usually isn't that necessary.

Yes, my rifle range is limited to 300 yds so both rifles routinely break clay pigeons at 300 after dialing the scope to 300. 9X is plenty. Actually the clays are easy at 300. Federal 168 grain HPBT ammo. MV 2600 although scope turret says 2650 I give it one more click up.

Thank you both. Spikedriver you are right about not having to go big power. But you did say that you are using 12X.
It's kinda like having a V-8, don't HAVE to use it but when you do need it, it's there. I think I have made up my mind and will go with a 4x12.

4x12 is probably a good choice along with 3x9 or the various 2.5x10 scopes. I like a lower power for the bigger field of view, I find it frustrating when I can't find a coyote in my scope fast enough. Plus big power amplifies your wobbles and wiggles. I've had 4x16 before and found that I only used 16 off the bench. My current coyote gun wears a fixed 6x with fine crosshairs and it's great out to 300 yards which is about the limit of my short-barreled AR's range.

I pulled the BIG trigger on my scope. Nikon M308 BDC. Bore sighted and shot. Lousy bore sighted but it put it on the paper so I could twist and click. Got the crosshairs on bullseye and impact is about 5 " down. If I put the 400 circle on the bullseye it's dead center. BTW this shooting was all done at the Camp Allen indoor range at 25 yards. Will try to get to a 100 yd range sometime soon. Around here it's be a member or go to the NC border to go 100+. Nice groupings.
