Sturm, Ruger has announced they are stretching their line of SR22 plinkers by bringing out a new gun featuring a 4.5-inch barrel which translates to an extended sight radius, a tad more powder burned and improved accuracy potential.

The gun

Introduced in 2012, the SR22 is officially part of the SR-series pistols by Ruger. With that being said, the gun is both mechanically and ergonomically different from all the other handguns in that program. In fact, it can be argued that the SR22 has the same ergonomics as the Walther P22 which was introduced in 2003.

Construction is largely the same as well, with both guns having polymer frames. However, one important difference is that the SR has an aluminum slide rather than the zinc one of the Walther.

Moving from that, the Ruger has a few distinct advantages. One, it has a traditional push-button magazine release rather than the awkward paddle-type mag release of the Walther. Second, the aluminum slide is seen as an improvement over the zinc one (often called pot metal) of the P22.

Moreover, the SR22 is made in America, just saying. And now, it comes in a longer length as well

The new 4.5 SR22

Introduced this week is an extended length target model of the standard SR22. It offers a 4.50" barrel (an increase of one inch) and a similarly extended slide.

"This new SR22 offers Ruger customers an alternative model with different balance, both visually and in the hand, and the extended sight radius offers improved accuracy potential," says Ruger's presser on the new gun.
