I've played with .44 long guns for a number of years and think 150 is pushing it. At a 100 as I recall you can take it off your shoulder and watch the bullet hit.

Be realistic in the cartridge with expectations. Never heard of a 175 yr brush gun either. Within it's useful range, the .44 mag is a formidable cartridge, has been for decades and decades. The animals haven't gotten tougher, the "hunter" (term used loosely) simply has gotten lazier and less responsible so they depend more on oomph than on actual marksmanship.
