    I have this problem.....
when I see something (gun wise) that is a good deal, and its something thats been high on my want/need list for a while.....
I just cant get it off my mind.

So I drove back over to the LGS today just for one more look.

Yep , you guessed it...it followed me home.
I think Im in love again.

Marlin 1895 GBL, 45-70 Gov't, brown laminate stock, stamped with JM, designating pre Remlin, and SN indicates early 2009 mfg.
Like new, very few shots fired , and not a scratch or ding anywhere.
Crap, it didnt come with a sling.;)
Hope it shoots as good as it looks.

    Lookin forward to it

Hahaha..you are like me... You love the devastation caused by a heavy projectile traveling at high/moderate speed and crashing into an object of only medium resistance with the end result being the total and spectacular annihilation of said object.

My old 54 Lyman was a monster. It would blow a huge hole in 6" of wet phone books at 50 yards using 120 gr 3F (777) and a 450 gr soft lead conical. MY GOD! I get all wobbly just thinkin about that. :dizzy:

    :cheesy:

When I was training my 9 yr old grandson, to shoot a handgun,he had moved upto .38 caliber in my Uberti SAA .357.
After letting him shoot 50 or so .38 reloads into gallon jugs of water, which only punched holes.
    , I sneaked a .357 into last chamber,
When he fired that last round, his eyes were wide open, and a big grin came on his face, he was so excited to see the jug fly up in the air and explode.
Started costing me more from then on.
Now hes 11,will shoot anything, and big boomers are his favorite.

    Me Too.

Do those Marlin's handle just the old low pressure 45-70 loads, or do they handle the newer, "hits like the fist of God" type loadings?

Before grabing this gun, I did a little research.

It is rated at 40,000 psi, but that would be too much for my shoulder and could be hard on the brass.

Ill work on some loads in the 30 to 35,000 psi range, and if it hurts my shoulder, I may drop to lesser charge.

Test were done on some old Winchester brass at 70,000 psi and they held up and fell freely from chamber, but I wouldnt try that.

That's why I've always loved the 44 magnum. Now I have a Contender rifle barrel in 44 mag. Talk about an increase in velocity ,who knows what kind of damage it can do ;):D?

    Know whats fun?

Seeing what a hot 44 mag bullet, out of a 24" barrel , does to a gallon jug of water at 50 yards.

    Now thats fun.

    Yep,
I shot the Marlin 45-70 today.
Off bench at 50 yds, Open factory sights.( I dont like these sights)
    Using Hornady 325gr FTX ammo.
First shot was 1 1/2" to right of center. Made sight adjust.
    Second shot ,dead center.
Third shot, hanging bowling pin,.....holy crap...

What a huge hole all the way thru , dead center.

    Nice short, light trigger.
    I do love this gun

Three shots was enough, thats all my shoulder wanted,

Im very happy with this gun. Into the safe she goes. Until I can reload some ammo..
