Besides the SR number how can you tell the new vaquero model from the old model
• Frame size is the most obvious. The original Vaquero is on the large frame. the New Vaquero now renamed to Vaquero is on the medium frame.
• Next easiest is the serial number. The original Vaquero has a 2-digit prefix. The current Vaquero has a 3-digit prefix.
• Hammers and grip frame also are different between the two models.

Note: There are no, as in zero, Old Model Vaqueros. in Ruger-ese, Old Model refers to those pre-'73 single action revolvers which ha a non transfer bar action design. Since then, all have been of the transfer bar design, thus being New Models.

Thanks Blkhawk this helps a lot mine does have the two number prefix and what appears too be the large frame but it also has a transfer bar and that was what was throwing me off I am wondering if this revolver was maybe sent back to Ruger at one time or another.
Thanks again for your help
