need a little help with history of mini

    Hi folks,
    I have an opportunity to purchase a mini 14 stainless to add to my 5801 mini,and the pictures I have seen of it so far show on the receiver ranch .223. my rifle which is new says mini 14 556 did ruger make just a .223 or did they all shoot 556 from inception ? thanks. I will try to include a picture of the engraving. I can t get the serial # till tomorrow. thx

    When Ruger made the Mini 14, obviously his model was its big brother the M14.

    But he wanted to make it much less costly.

    as well as making it into the 5.56NATO/223Rem caliber rather than 7.62NATO/.308Win

    There was a brief run of them chambered in .222Rem to export to places that did not want citizens using NATO ammo.

    This might help

    Look in the owners manual That Came with the mini-14. Look under ammunition statement. It would say(like mine, a series 583, that it handles Both .223 And 5.56 of commercial production) I did not state Actual statement but it will be concise in manual.
