Pictured below is my Mossberg 500 Cruiser chambered in 12 gauge.

The 500 series comprises widely varying models of hammerless, pump action repeaters, all of which share the same basic receiver and action, but differ in bore size, barrel length, choke options, magazine capacity, and "furniture" ( stock and forearm) materials.

Snagged this Mossy ATR off a guy that walked it into a gunshow I was at all weekend. It is a .30-06 cal. gun is in 98% condition. He had tried to trade and or sell it to a few dealers and they all had passed it at 250. He said it was suppose to have some kinda special barrel bedding and a nice looking bipod hanging off it, Colwell or Caldwell? Not sure, can't see well enough to read it.Guy said he would take 2 bill for it with the extra 200 worth of "custom work" that I could not see. Asked him, "what was wrong with it?" It was almost new, supposed custom work and now, "getting rid of it." He finally admitted to shot strigs going up and down. Sounded like a scope problem or his fancy bedding job didn't take too well.

Told him I would take his problem child for 125 cause a new cheapo scope would cost me about 70 bucks or so. He beeeetched and moaned about the "bedding job" and bipod and labor at the gunshop. A bill and a half stopped his crying. Already had a Weaver 4X steel tube duplex reticle waiting to be mounted at home.

A quick check on my Bushnell bore sigher grid showed the verticle adjusment did nothing to mive the crosshair on the grid. Horizontal worked fine. Bases and rings are Weaver type and are sold as a rock. Set the old 4X Weaver on it and got some 150 gr. JSP reloads. Only had 12 frounds to mess with the zero, so a 3 round zero was in order.

Benched it at 100 yds with my usual Pancho Villa 15" pizza box target. Didn't care much for the bipod, but it was already there. Nice one, just would be better to zero off sandbags.Anyway, first round was on paper and just had to "walk it up" to the mark. Zero is close enough for now and gun shows consistency. Will shoot some groups when I get more ammo, if I can find it.

Gun is very solid. Matte black metal on poly stock. The bipod appears well done. Barrel bedding is still in question, but don't matter much if it holds a zero now. Solid and smooth bolt throw. Little wear marks on bolt. Top loading box mag with no floorplate. Gun feeds and ejects well.

I had not used one of these before, but was impressed as the whole package still sells for less than a Savage "package" gun. The Savage goes locally at Wally World @ 4 bills.

Pic of the whole "package" gun with bipod.

Pic of the gun with the new/old Weaver 4X optic.

A pic of the target, with a quick 3 shot, half azz, zero..Groups later.

Almost forgot these. A Mossy M44 US targer .22 caliber rifle. Put it togeter from 5 other rifles over a period of 5 years for my kids to use in loncal competitions.

Other on is a Maverick 88 in 12 gauge. It is a Texas made version of the Mossy 500. Barrels interchange. Have a Mossy 500 P-grip for it that makes it shorter like the Mossy Cruiser, but ya still can't shoot it very well without the buttstock. So I don't use it.
