I have been interested in a Mini-14 for awhile now. I really like how it reminders me of the M-1 Garand. The problem is I've been told that they lack in accuracy. Is this true and are there any fixes for this if true.

My understanding(info read on the net over the years)is that Ruger farmed out the early production barrels when they first came out.When the barrels would heat up,the groups spread and move around on the paper.In later years Ruger produced there own barrels and the problem stoped but not the storys.Buy a later model and or find out when the barrel change took place.

Ruger completely retooled the Mini 14 and added a new heavy tapered barrel. No more accuracy problems.if you buy a 581 or 582 series with the tapered barrel. Good luck finding one though.

I have a 2010 580 series ranch min14. I've never been disatisfied with it's accuracy or it's function.

There are some fairly economical ways to improve the accuracy on a Mini-14, not the least of which is a barrel stabilizer, such as the one found here...
