Greetings. I've been around firearms for many years. A member of several other forums. I have a few Rugers, and it occurred to me I should be here as well.

Congratulations for your GP 100. Currently, there is a shortage of ammo for .38 spl and .357 mag. If you find any take it. Name brand is irrelevant, it’s all good ammo.

.357 mag
The 125 gr. Is recommended or better preferred for self defense.
The 158 gr. or 180 gr. is more for hunting. The 158 gn can also be used as self defense.
There is a round by Barnes. It’s a 140 gn. solid copper bullet hollow point. Good for self defense and hunting.

.38 SPL
The 138 gn. and 148 gn. +P self defense load hollow points is also a good option.
The 158 gn. and 160 gn. SJFP all good ammo for home defense.

For the range, any ammo is okay.
Lead may be better and less expensive. Use hard cast bullets, it’ll be easy on your barrel.
