Beautiful Saturday, and turtles have awoken,
So my grandsons , all 3 of them, were excited to sneak up the back side of the pond and try shooting a few turtles.
We took both air rifles , .177 and .22 magnum,
We didnt have much luck, as them turtles aint stupid. They all went to the other side, which was a bit too far.
We did manage to kill 2 , and seriuosly wound another, which did die also.(Scouted them out today)
Boys are 7, 8, and 12yrs old.
The 12 year old has been shooting since 6, the other 2 are in their 2-3rd year shooting. They are not patient , when it comes to waiting on the turtles to come up for air.
So we grabbed my new Savage FVSR .22 Rifle, not sighted , never fired rifle , and my never fired Uberti 1873 Cattleman 12 shot .22 revolver, drove the golf cart down to the range. (the 12 yr old has been driving the golf cart since he was 2 yr old)
We started out at 25 yds , The rifle was shooting 4 " low, and the revolver was hitting 10x12" metal plates .
3 more shots to dial in the scope to bulls eye, 3/4" groups with bulk ammo.
Let the boys bust a few water bottles, tear apart some targets , before moving back to 50 yds.
Then they had a ball , 500 rounds of thunderbolt and goldens, ( I admit , not the ammo)
But the oldest boy was hitting 8 out of 10 bulls eyes( after a few clicks down on the scope), and still hitting the metal plate with the revolver.
Even hitting a few water bottles with the revolver. (it does shoot to right about 2 " at that distance.)
This was all after a great easter egg hunt with the 3 girls included.
A few pics,
Jim
