Today I bought 4 boxes of bullets and two bottles of powder just in case there becomes a shortage in the near future. I bought a dozen or more candles for light and cooking if needed. I also bought some more T=paper just because they don't have any big phone books handy anymore.
I read putting a string in a can of Crisco will make a get you by flame for cooking and light. It said a can could provide fire 8 hours a day for over 40 days. I remember as a kid in summer park school we made Bunsen burners out of cardboard, wax, and a coffee can.

I thought about buying a small generator but I figured there might not be much gas to buy for it. I have a generator but it only puts out around 90 volts so it's about worthless. I figure getting it fixed might cost as much as a new one so............ And again where will the gas for it come from?

I don't know what I would do without TV and my PC. I should find a crank up charge types.

Just to let you guys know, for candles

They are SUPER easy to make and one HELLOVA lot cheaper.

10 pound block of wax is $32 including shipping at Bulk Apothecary

Wicks like this : are $4 for 100 on Ebay [IMG]

You rinse out your soup cans (the larger ones like with the peel off top) , stick the wick in the can, melt the wax in a pot, pour it in after it cools a some and you have a 12 oz candle that will burn for 3 days (assuming you don't fill the can to the top)

Figure you will only need the candles for what 9 hours at most? than they will last you at least a week.

And you can get 12 and 1/2 candles from the wax assuming spillage and such ... so you figure at most it costs you $3 per candle.

3 day burning (12 oz) candles made of the right wax cost the cheapest I have seen of $13 each.

    Just something to consider.

Oh, and you HAVE to have a few large rolls of duct tape!

It's just the High Tech version of bailing wire. It's stainless and Strong.
When duct tape won't hold something, bring out the safety wire....
