What are some of the good places to shoot in your area?
There is a place commonly referred to as Otter Creek in Wakulla county. The official name is the Wakulla Co. Sheriff's Office Shooting Range and Training Center. Whew, now you know why it's referred to as Otter Creek.

I'm in the big town of Ft. McCoy. We even have a four-way flashing red light in the center of town! Well, I'm really about 4 miles outside of town. For those of you who can't find it on the map, we're about 30 miles SE of Gainesville, FL.

There is a pubic range in the Ocala National Forest off US 40 East. Gainesville has the Gainesville Target Range. A little East there is the Branford Sportsman's Club.

Ever get down this way give a shout-out and we can hit one and put some rounds down range.

NE Florida, St. Augustine

St. Augustine area Ancient City Shooting Range. Private Club that lets you buy a daily membereship. Lots of registered functions (matches) shot just about every Saturday. I like the Steel Challenge shot on the 3rd Sat of each month. It' just a fun shoot for me. Membership runs from cheap to expensive depending on what you want to do. Military (active/retired), Law Enforcement etc get a very good discount. This club is building to it's 1000 member max so call soon. attac-fl.com

I'm in Jacksonville and there are 3 or 4 indoor ranges. Useful at times but pricey. Some of them have some rules that don't work well for me such as any brass that hits the floor is theirs. Ok with 22's and revolvers but for a reloader who shoots pistols, not so good. I shoot very often at a large outdoor gun club on the west side of Jax called Gateway Rifle and Pistol. They claim to have the largest membership of any gun club in Florida. Lots of firing lines for slow fire handguns, action shooting, and rifles out to 200 meters. Very reasonable dues but some occasional internal politics makes me wonder what the heck they are thinking. Due to encroaching subdivisions and a little tension with a nearby business airport, I'm concerned about the future of the club. I've been a member for about 16 yrs and would like to see it survive.
I have shot some about 40 miles away at a range in Bradford Cty that has a rifle range to 300 yds and another out to 600 yds. Lots of fun there at times!

I use Cow Creek Hunt Club, a private outdoor range in the Edgewater\New Smyna Beach area of Volusia County. It's a great place to shoot handguns up to rifles and shotguns with permanent covered lines, open pits and a separate skeet area. Annual membership is plenty reasonable and crowding isn't a problem. Requires NRA membership.

I live north of Don and have thought about Gateway, but it's $100 per year.
West of Jax is the free range run by the State in the Osceola National Forest - the range is just east of Lake City. But that's 65 miles one way for me, I haven't been in years.
Actually the closest range for me is in Georgia - the Dixon WMA range about 7 miles south of Waycross. It's unsupervised, has a 100 yard side and a 40 yard side, covered firing line, cement firing tables. You have to have a Georgia Outdoor Recreation Permit, it's $19.00 per year individual/$36 per year for "small group".
