My Single Six hates CCI ammo. I bought a box of Winchester .22 mag when I bought it used 15 years ago and it shot great until I switched to the .22lr cylinder. Then accuracy went to hell. A friend sold his .22 mag and gave me an almost full box of Maxi-Mags'. It started shooting patterns not groups. I thought something was wrong with the revolver until I switched back to the Winchester ammo. I got to thinking the only .22 lr ammo I had fired was Stingers. Switched to some cheap bulk .22lr ammo and the groups shrunk. The solution was simple I have not used any CCI ammo since. Has anyone else had that problem? My 10/22 handles Volicitors OK.

Generally I find CCI 22 LR ammo to be the best, but every gun is different.

I've never fired a round of 22 Magnum, so I have no idea about that.

I have always had great luck with CCI Mini Mags, I can not remember a single failure with them. I bought an S&W M&P 22 and it had failure after failure out of the box with bulk pack Fed. (normally I have no problem with Fed.). I ran 500 rounds of CCI and gave it a quick cleaning, now it runs everything fine. Accuracy is also pretty good for HV stuff.

Bovine, I haven't seen any for sale. I'll look. The local Big R had some .22 mag labeled defensive. I can't remember the brand. The only thing I use the SS6 for if vermin. I would try some when I run out of the Winchester.

There does not seem to be a lot of rime nor reason as to why on gun shoots one type of ammo or another. There are some barrels that at build with a certain load or another but not many. Some times you just have to try different things out. It is just like cars, you get convinced one brand of gasoline is better then you get a new car and one day you find out it like a different brand of fuel then your last set of wheels. I think the trick is not to get hung up on a brand, just find what ever works best.

The Critical Defense is a Hornady's 22 mag. I wouldn't consider a .22mag for defense but I might try the ammo for vermin.
I have a NAA Pug in .22 Mag. as a BUG. I usually carry a .45 or 9mm, sometimes in the summer I opt for the .380 LCP. I haven't tried everything but I have yet to find a round that will expand at all out of the short .22 mag. barrel into water jugs. Do you know of anyone who makes a round that has a bit more "bump" out of the tiny guns?

500, I still wouldn't use any rim fire unless it was the only gun I had at hand for defense, but they are making claims for the critical defense as a defense round. I can't even get excited about .327 Fed as a defense round. You can get .357 or 9MM in the same size and weight. They kick more.

Midway USA had some Aquila 22 ammo on sale a few months ago. I got a brick. These are hot 22 lr loads. 1750fps from a rifle...don't know specs on shorted barrels. I use a Savage MKII FV and I get 3/8" by 3/4" 15 shot groups at 50 yards. My friend got under a half inch with it. 30 grain hollow point bullet x 1750 fps fired at a rabbit 30 yards away...blew off the lower jaw. Bullet hit just under the eye. Devastating and accurate.
