    Why not just use a calibrated scale master weight? Not that expensive, at least not as much as a blown-up handgun to replace.
    My Hornady Electronic scale came with 2 master calibration weights:

    I recently got a RCBS Rangemaster 2000 electronic scale. This scale come with weights to check zero. I had a small set of $35.00 scales that were not consistent. The Ohaus double beam scales were retired. The RCBS is doing great.
