I don't have a clue about scopes or red dots. Looking for something sub $250. Don't know if I need any magnification, but would like to use the Charger throughout it's effective range. I looked at a red/green dot Vortex today at my LGS that came with an attachment for magnification but significantly decreased the viewing window. Without the attachment I liked it just fine, especially the spring loaded lens covers. They asking $170 for it.

What have you used in this type of application, what worked, and what should I avoid?

It's a shame that Ruger stopped producing the Charger. It's a fun little assault pistol. Mine is a blast to shoot. I have pretty much the same setup as justin does.
