I aquired an old single shot 410 from an uncle who was given it by his uncle years ago. Gun was manufactured in late 20's or 30 s and was chambered for 2 1/2 in. My uncle not knowing the difference, had bought a box of 3 in. magnums. Fortunately he never fired it but my question is what would have happened if he did?

Exact same scenario when I was a kid, two hours at the eye doctor getting brass dug out of my eye with a needle.

If the 3 inch shells chamber, the modern shells could have enough power to swell the barrel on an old gun. I have a 410 that was made in the late 1800s that someone shot modern ammo in and it bulged the barrel. I keep it simply as a conversation piece. The maker, Hopkins and Allen. went out of business in 1914.
