I recently purchased a 1987 mini 14 who’s rear sight is banged up and would like to replace it so what are the part numbers I need and any places recommended for a purchase. Also what after market magazines would you suggest?

OP, title says Mini-30, but post says Mini-14. Please edit for clarity. Sights for Mini-30/Mini-14 can be different, so pls be specific. Most folks buy genuine Ruger mags. Aftermarket mags may or may not work, but making useful suggestions about such mags also requires knowing which type of Mini you own.

Find model # of your firearm, usually first 3 digits of Serial Number.

Go here: Instruction Manuals Then click in "Rifles" box just above displayed/default (Pistol) chart..

Select proper Owner's/Instruction manual for your specific Mini; based on it's Series Number and date of mfr. Download it, and save it so you can read it fully from cover to cover.

In the Owner's/Instruction manual, there are exploded diagrams with parts numbers and parts nomenclature.

Take a close look at the diagram, and make sure the sight looks like the one you have. Write down the part # and full text description of all the parts you need.

Then post what you need here, and see if someone can help. You can also contact Ruger at the phone # and/or e-mail address supplied at Ruger.com and talk to them. Sometimes they will sell you the parts you need, sometimes they will simply send the parts to you.

Some folks like and use the sights from Home - Tech Sights They are excellent sights, but again you will need to know the Series # of your Mini. If you can get the parts to fix your existing sight, suggest you do so as you may find having them will increase the re-sale value of your Mini.

Best wishes!
