Recommendations please. Who is using a slip-on pad with their PC9 carbine? Leaning towards a "slip on" Pachmayr "Decelerator" model, but don't see on their website how to "size" it for a correct fit. I have a factory butt (not extendable). Would I add 1 or more of the butt "extenders" it came with.....or omit them? LOP not important to me. Best reputable online source (Pachmayr?) for ordering your recommended recoil pad? Many thanks in advance to all who respond! Any possibility of your response before am Jan. 15Th? Thanks again!

Hello Ron, have you shot that gun yet ? It's heavy, should be like shooting rubberbands. I shoot my pocket 9 one handed and from both sides. As mentioned above unless you have some injury. I use to shoot my .357 mag snubby one handed as well. I'm now attempting to work my way up to a 12 gauge shotgun, albeit we won't be doing one handed. :)

A 20g is a good option, just as good as the 12g minus the tremendous recoil. Start off with shot size #8. #9 if you can find it. #9 through #7 is good for small birds. #6 is for slightly larger size game, such as quail, pheasant or larger. With todays shot gun ammo the steel shot is also a good choice. There is something called hevi shot, with this load there is no need to go much larger than #6 for shooting turkey.

ron4735, welcome to the post Ruger brother. The PC9 is a very soft shooter, it does not have much recoil, therefore eliminating a cushioned recoil pad. It is about the same as shooting your 5.56 or 223 rifle. The 30-30 has much more recoil and it is considered a soft recoil.

I shoot 30-06 when hunting, but to go out and re-sight my scope I use a face towel folded up into a small 4x4 square and place it on my shoulder just under my shirt.
After ten or more repeated shots the shoulder tends to get a bit sore.

You should be okay without a recoil pad. If you need one for personal reasons there are after market recoil pads that slip on and off. They don't look nice on any weapon, NOT AT ALL.
The PC9 is a fine short carbine rifle with minimal recoil for close quarter and in home defense as well as for 50 yards or more. Some guys are actually taking the PC9 out for dear hunting.
as for the extended butt pad, there is only so far you can extend the rifle from your cheek when shooting iron sites. If you mounted a scope, pretty much the same applies. It is a short rifle.

If it is a must have, go with Pachmyr. I'm not sure if hogue has one but they are a good brand worth checking.
