I think states with those requirements are concerned with "carry". Wondering if any of them used test data to establish those requirements.

Is Massachusetts still a 'shotgun&noslug' state?

Iowa's deal was safety. Most of our state is open with isolated pockets of brush. In the fall the deer migrate to these brushy areas like creek bottoms. Large groups of hunters then drive the brush. It was decided that high power rifles were too risky in that situation. The straight wall cartridge limitation is just to force hunters to use lower velocity, short range ammo.

Short range ammo?

Do they not know history?

The Springfields and Sharps were taking down 1800 lb Bison at 1000 yards +; with 45-70 gov , black powder,
Fugidabout 45-120 ,

Gotta love it.

^^^ Pretty sure THEY know the history...

Pretty sure 99% of modern hunters don't. They read gun mags and websites and learn, "Wow! I didn't know a 300 Win Mag was necessary for shooting deer past 150 yards! I better go get one, the gun writers told me so!"

If they consider the 45-70 a short range ammo....maybe they played hookey from history class.

I know some Ky folks that have taken deer past 150 , yep even 300 yrds with it.

We have a Long range shootin club in a neighboring county that shoot Sharps 45-70 , and are hitting silouettes at over 1000 yrds.

No magazine told me that.

When I downsized my Handi Rifle collection, I let my .357 Magnum go and kept the 300 BLK instead. I like the 300 BLK just a bit better, but I miss my .357.

I had the synthetic .357/20 gauge combo gun. Of course I reamed it to 357 Maximum. I am thinking about the T/C Contender in 357 Magnum, but I kind of want the Carbine. The 357 only comes in pistol barrel length.

Good snatch on the Rossi. I'm just glad it was there for you when you went back.

Greg, I also have a Rossi LA rifle in .357, and I learned to appreciate the power of .357 out of a long Barrel,

You just got to watch what ammo (bullet type) you use , stacked in that tube magazine.

In the single shot Rossi, you can even shoot RNFMJ,

The 357 out of a rifle, the Handi is 22 inches, really sings, and 38 Specials make a good small game round.
